Danny Tieger is back from a three-week absence, during which he traveled to Cambodia to teach kids how to write songs and probably had all sorts of life-affirming experiences or whatever.

This show also marks the return of the Renaissance Open, in which we take a word suggestion from the audience and spin it into a song, a poem, and a piece of visual art. Yes, it was designed to make your head spin.

Also featured this week is pip-squeak Max Toubes, the youngest Token Boy to date. I think he's like ten or something? Regardless, we've been told to keep things "G-Rated" this week. Can it be done? Is it even possible?!

Yes. We're all mature here.

Hopefully we'll have an actual website soon, so the whole "sexier blog" thing might not be that exciting now that we think about it.
Casting is pretty much complete for our totally secret project with Ten Thirty One Productions. Still, if you know any hot moms, or actresses who could pass for hot moms, let us know.
Matt Schwartz and David Kantrowitz have their first graduation show at UCB this weekend.
The final weekend approaches of Matt Chester's play "Two Figures." Go see it.
Danny Tieger is a Story Pirate and a NASA songwriter.
We've got several new sketch videos in the works, hopefully one with some narration by Shadoe Stevens.
We really like Culver City High School.

Ashley Opstad is the Artistic and Managing Director of the Improv Space. She's a hilarious improviser and a wonderful friend, and we're all super pumped to attend her wedding this weekend.

As you know, each week Token Boy has a guest dude perform with their regular troupe of talented ladies. Not to give away the surprise, but this week their guest is very fleshy and enjoys having dollar bills stuffed down his thong.

Making "Almighty Idol"

Have you watched Almighty Idol yet? If so, you'll enjoy this brief look behind the low-budget scenes.

David drew some rough concept sketches for the idol (seen below). He then handed them off to Danny, who constructed the idol out of cardboard and a lot of Make-It-Stone.

Shooting the sketch while hiking/climbing was pretty strenuous. Beforehand David did some rough thumbnails (below), trying to figure out what shots were necessary for the opening montage, but a lot was captured on the fly.

Then Matt combined forces with Gooding to create the tribal beats, and the video was complete. So much time and energy put into a two-and-a-half minute final product. The secret ingredient: love.

So I was poking around our YouTube page, trying to figure out how to get rid of those pesky embedded advertisements, when I accidentally deleted all of our videos.

I've never experienced a feeling quite like it - not exactly an adrenaline rush, more like a devastating remorse rush. I think I went through all five stages of grief that day.

Luckily, all the videos still existed on (our editor) Erik's hard drive, so I was able to re-upload. But things aren't quite the same. The first episode of Actor Hunters had over 200,000 views, now we're down to 90.

I know we don't do it for the stats, we do it because we love making comedy together, but I still feel like a tiny piece of me died inside. Worst of all, I've let the Statesmen down in an irreversible way.

Maybe this debacle can be seen as a rebirth. Its been over a year since we'd put anything new up, but we now plan to deliver fresh videos on a regular basis. We're starting out this week with a video that almost got us arrested (we'll save that story for later), and in a lot of ways this feels like a new beginning. We're kicking out the cobwebs, I just wish I hadn't messed up so bad while doing it.

"Spotlight" on the Statesmen

It was a big day for the Younger Statesmen: we were featured as a "Spotlight" video in the comedy section of YouTube! (We like you too, Mark Day).
Thanks to that, and the plug from our very own Danny Tieger and the ever-lovely Julia Nunes, we were ranked # 37 in most comedy subscriptions this month. I'm not really sure what that means, but I think it's cool, right?
And in case you haven't seen it already, Danny and Nunes make beautiful music together.
